About the Programme

The program is suitable for those interested in programming, computer science, game development, game design, and creative problem-solving in a team. What makes this program unique is that you have the opportunity to learn advanced programming in a game engine and collaborate closely with students from an arts discipline to create computer games and apps. The curriculum focuses on developing both your technical skills and creative abilities in problem-solving. These are  crucial competencies in high demand in the job market. In this program, you will learn techniques for building visual systems and developing software for both the entertainment industry and engineering.

Game technology encompasses a broad field, including simulation, systems thinking, programming, game design, and mathematics, forming the foundation for the development of complex data systems. Society requires competent professionals with knowledge of new technologies, knowledge dissemination, interactive processes, system understanding, creative problem-solving, effective communication skills, and an understanding of teamwork, as well as game design for various user groups.

The Bachelor's in Game Technology and Simulation provides more than traditional programming and computer science studies. Here, you gain additional skills through teamwork, design thinking, and creative processes essential to face future challenges in the workforce.

This programme is open for international students

The Bachelor's in Game Technology and Simulation is an international programme, and the language of instruction is English.

Are you interested in becoming an exchange student?

Exchange students from our partner institutions can select individual courses from the whole programme. Courses can be combined based on personal preferences. All courses in this programme are eligible for exchange students. We will assist in creating a learning agreement tailored to the students' preferences and abilities, and to avoid scheduling conflicts. 

Some courses require prerequisite knowledge. Please refer to the study plan starting from 2024 for specific information for each course. The normal workload for one semester is 30 ECTS.

Application deadline and admission

Applicants must meet the requirements for Higher Education Entrance Qualification, including the English language proficiency requirement. Applicants are exempted from the Norwegian language proficiency requirement.

In addition, mathematics equivalent to level R1 from Norwegian upper secondary school is required.

For exchange students:

Contact the International Office/Department at your home institution to find out if you are eligible for exchange studies at Inland Norway University of Applied Sciences. Nomination deadline: April 15th/October 1st. Application deadline: May 1st/October 15th.

How much does it cost?

This programme is free for exchange students from our partner institutions. Full degree students have to pay a semester fee of approximately NOK 1000,-. To obtain a study permit, sufficient money for subsistence is required. Please refer to the Norwegian Directorate of Immigration (UDI) for more information.

Students from outside the European Union, the European Economic Area (EEA) and Switzerland are required to pay tuition. The tuition fee for the programme is NOK 168 000 per academic year.

PC/MAC and Software

It is expected that students have their own laptop with updated software, see system requirements for PC and MAC for the academic year 2024-2025. Why study at The Game School in Hamar?

Hamar is considered the game capital of Norway, hosting many companies specializing in game development. The Game School brings together a large interdisciplinary academic community within the fields of game technology, simulation, virtual reality, augmented reality, animation and digital art, and is part of the Faculty of Audiovisual Media and Creative Technologies.

The Game School is situated at Campus Hamar. Hamar is the largest city in Innlandet county and has a central and idyllic location along the banks of Norway's largest lake, Mjøsa, close to the capital city and Oslo airport. The campus is conveniently located in the city centre. The local region has several historical sites and offers a large variety of cultural events and outdoor activities.
