Deposit of funds to cover living expenses

General information

As a general rule, students from outside the EU/EEA/EFTA need to document a certain amount in a Norwegian bank account in order to be granted a student residence permit/visa in Norway -- presently a minimum of NOK 137 907 for one academic year.

The Norwegian Directorate of Immigration (UDI) enforce this rule strictly and will in most cases not accept other means of documentation, like a bank statement from a bank in your home country, or financial guarantees from relatives or other third parties. If the UDI does not accept your documentation, it will affect your residence permit application both with regards to:

  1. The result (your residence permit/visa application may be denied)
    and
  2. Processing time (the length of the processing time of the application will be much longer than the normal 2 months), and you will probably not obtain your residence permit/visa in time to start your studies

Persons without a Norwegian personal ID-number are not permitted to open a bank account in Norway, and as a result it is not possible for students to open an account from abroad and transfer the requested amount to this account before applying for the residence permit/visa.

INN University therefore operates an account in DNB for international students from countries outside the EU/EEA/EFTA. As mentioned above, non-EU/EEA/EFTA students need to document the possession of a minimum of NOK 137 907 in order to be granted a student residence permit. Below, you will find instructions on how to transfer your money to the INN University Account. Please read this carefully.

PLEASE NOTE: By accepting the offer of admission at INN University in the Application portal, you also accept that you have to transfer the necessary funds to the deposit account for international students provided by INN University, so that you may document sufficient financial means for obtaining a residence permit as a student to Norway.

The deposit will be fully refunded after you have obtained your Norwegian bank account, or in case your visa application is declined, and you must withdraw your admission.

Please note: Students who already have a Norwegian bank account or a Norwegian ID-number, which enables them to open a bank account in Norway, must transfer their money to their personal bank account and not to the INN University account. Please inform the international coordinator of your study programme if you already have a Norwegian bank account.
