Global Awareness and Sustainability

The Global Awareness and Sustainability (GLOBE) research group aims to develop and disseminate research and knowledge about global awareness, sustainable development and intercultural competencies, and understanding related to teacher education at all levels.

What we research

The research group is concerned with how global policies transfer to national and local levels. GLOBE is thus also concerned with analyses of international and national education policies, development policies, and environmental and climate policies, including the Sustainable Development Goals. 

More about the research group

We aim to: 

  • Develop and disseminate research and knowledge related to climate change, natural resource management, conflicts of interest, and sustainable development, including the Sustainable Development Goals, especially goal 4.7: “By 2030 ensure that all learners acquire knowledge and skills needed to promote sustainable development, including among others through education for sustainable development and sustainable lifestyles, human rights, gender equality, promotion of a culture of peace and non-violence, global citizenship, and appreciation of cultural diversity and of culture’s contribution to sustainable development”. This includes Education for Sustainable Development (UBU).  
  • Develop and disseminate research and knowledge on multicultural and intercultural competencies and perspectives, including topics related to social, ethnic, cultural and economic diversity, race, racism, and how these are introduced and integrated into teacher educations, schools and kindergartens.  
  • Develop and disseminate research and knowledge on globalization, global processes, citizenship, democracy, migration, inequality, poverty and global awareness, including Global Citizenship Education (GCE).  
  • Develop and disseminate research and knowledge about global, national and local discourses within the above-mentioned disciplines, and particularly engage in critical reflection and analysis of social and societal processes and structures, especially linked to teacher education.
