Short description
Greek received her PhD in social anthropology from the University of Oslo (2020). Since 2022 she has been an Associate Professor of Social Studies in the Department of Social Sciences, Religion and Ethics at the University of Inland Norway (INN).
Her doctoral research examined effects of neoliberal development policy. In the dissertation Searching for Development: State Relations and Local Aspirations among Rural Mapuche in Neoliberal Chile, she presents an ethnographic account of how development programs and state presence shape the lives of Indigenous communities in southern Chile. She shows how neoliberal policies produce cultural, social, and economic differentiation, with particular attention to entrepreneurship and microfinance—interventions that expand individual agency while creating new forms of state dependence.
Greek combines a sustained engagement with entrepreneurship and political life in Chile with research on democracy. She investigates unconventional, non-institutional forms of democratic participation in the Global South and, with Eline Drury Løvlien (NTNU), is developing a project on democratic participation and survey research in Chile and South Africa. Concurrently, she examines the relationship between knowledge and democratic practice in Norwegian schools and is preparing the edited volume Kraftfull kunnskap i praksis, developed within the research group Society and Education in a Global Context (GLOBE) at the University of Inland Norway. Drawing on students’ practicum placements in Namibia (early childhood and primary teacher education), she also studies internationalization and the development of students’ professional competence with colleagues at INN. She is further developing her dissertation material and preparing manuscripts for submission to peer reviewed journals.
She is the section editor for Chile in Store norske leksikon, and she co-leads the research group Society and Education in a Global Context (GLOBE) with Tine Petersen Malonæs (INN)
