About the programme

The Bachelor in Game Art and Animation combines artistic creativity with cutting-edge digital production, preparing you for a career in the fast-growing global games industry. You will explore different art disciplines while mastering the tools and techniques used by professional studios worldwide.

Join us and turn your imagination into interactive art – and your passion into a profession. You will get to build a showreel and portfolio to support your dream career, and you will be part of an international, diverse and safe learning environment.

Choose your creative path

From your second semester, you can specialise in one of four exciting tracks:

  • Game Animator – Character animation, storytelling, and performance capture
  • 3D Game Artist – Modelling, sculpting, lighting, and rendering for realistic worlds
  • 2D Game Artist – Concept art, UI/UX design, and digital illustration
  • Technical Game Artist – VFX, shaders, rigging, and procedural tools for modern pipelines

Work like the industry

You will collaborate with Bachelor in Game Technology students on real game projects every semester, gaining production experience and building a professional portfolio.

In your final year, you will work on an internship, research project, or startup idea, and finish with a bachelor project created in a multidisciplinary team – just like in a real studio.

Curricula and courses

In the study plan, you will find information about the programme, including an overview of courses, learning objectives, and assessment methods. Choose the study plan for the year you will start the programme to find information relevant to you.

What can I be

You will leave the programme with a professional portfolio showcasing a wide range of artistic skills and specialisations. You will be qualified to pursue a career as a concept artist, 3D artist, character or environment artist, animator, or technical artist in game studios, animation, and related creative industries.

The competence is also suited in a broader context where gamification and more technical modelling and visualisations are used.

It is also possible to pursue relevant further educations nationally, abroad and through online courses in game development, animation, 3D modelling, technical art and concept art. At the University of Inland Norway, it is possible to apply for a master's degree to specialise further in your area of interest.

Student stories

  • Studying in Hamar is "supermakkelijk"

Flo den Haan and Jonas Valstar are both INN University students from the Netherlands. Why did they move 1000 kilometers away to study game development in Norway?

  • Specialising in virtual reality

As a student specialising in VR and AR at the Game School in Hamar, Aedan Soellaart has discovered a world of possibilities in games and technology. Not only does it qualify you to become a game developer or digital artist, it also opens doors to sectors like healtcare and machine industry.
