Short description
Roel Puijk (dr. philos) is professor emeritus in media studies, associated with the TV school. He is educated in social anthropology (University of Bergen) and received his doctorate on Realities in NRK - Program Production in Television's Enlightment Department (University of Oslo) in 1991. His latest book Slow TV - an analysis of minute-by-minute television in Norway was published in 2021.
Research
Puijk focuses his research in the area of cultural production, particularly the production of factual programs on TV. In addition, he has researched tourism, youth culture, regional development and festivals. He was involved in the research program The 1994 Winter Olympics and the cultural dimension (1992 - 1995), led the research program Television in digital environments (2003-2007) and was deputy leader in the multinational research program How to succeed in the private film and television industries. In connection with the latest research project, he has had several research stays at the University of Utrecht (NL). Puijk has organized several research conferences, been a board member of the Norwegian Media Research Association and was head of IAMCR's Media Production Analysis working group. As part of the research group BAM! he has carried out a survey of local TV in Norway and is now in the process of comparing local TV with regional film production.

Teaching
Puijk has broad teaching experience from bachelor's, master's and PhD level in Film and Television Studies. He has taught subjects such as the history of communication and television, industry studies, production studies, media and society, qualitative and quantitative methods.
