Marianne Eek

Short description

Marianne Eek is an associate professor at the Department of Nordic Language and Literature at University of Inland Norway (INN). She has a teacher education, a master's degree in the didactics of culture and language subjects from INN, and a PhD in second language didactics from INN. She has previously worked as a teacher in primary school and with literacy, numeracy and second language teaching for adult newcomers.

Eek's research interests are in the fields of second language didactics and sociolinguistics, focusing on multilingualism and language ideologies, social justice in education, participant perspectives in second language learning, identity and investment in second language learning, work-oriented language learning, and literacy and numeracy development in a second language didactic context. In 2024, she published the monograph Andrespråkslæring, språklæring og sosial rettferdighet [Second language learning, language learning, and social justice] based on my 2021 doctoral dissertation] based on her 2021 doctoral dissertation. In 2026, she published a textbook for teachers in adult education who teach newly arrived adults with limited or no school background, Grunnleggende lese- og skriveopplæring for voksne med norsk som andrespråk [Literacy teaching for adults with Norwegian as a second language].

Marianne Eek is a member of the research group Language Didactics in Multilingual Contexts at University of Inland Norway.
