Relevant information upon completing your degree

View the information in the drop-down lists below.

Leaving Norway

Closing down your bank account

Please see your online bank/contact the bank for detailed information. Withdraw money or transfer the money to your foreign bank account before leaving Norway (fees may apply).

Reporting a move from Norway (if relevant)

You must report to the National Registry that you will no longer be staying in Norway. You can report a move online with a bank ID.

Visit the National Registry's webpage for more information (external link).

Moving out of your SINN or private accommodation

Private accommodation

Before you leave, you must clean your room and the common areas in accordance with your contract. If you have any questions, reach out to your landlord directly. The landlord will give you information on how and where to return your housing key.

SINN accommodation

Before you leave, you must clean your room and the common areas (if relevant). Remember to clean your drawers, cabinets, and freezer. Bring everything you own with you. Put all trash in the appropriate trash can for disposal.

  • SINN provides a checklist of everything that must be cleaned in the SINN app. You can also find information on their moving-out webpage, including a video of what they will check during a cleaning check. Remember to turn on the English subtitles.
  • It is highly recommended that you order a cleaning check. A SINN staff member (INN cleaning/maintenance staff in Evenstad) will then come by your dorm to check how you cleaned and let you know if you need to clean more. It is not guaranteed that staff will be available when you wish to have a cleaning check, so make sure to reach out to them early and request an appointment. We recommend staying until the cleaning check, as you may be fined if extra cleaning is needed and you cannot do it yourself.
  • After you have cleaned (and, if you had one, the cleaning check has been approved), you can hand in your key. The deadline to submit the key is the last weekday at 09:00 before your rental agreement expires. Information on keys is also provided on the moving-out webpage.
    • Students at Campus Evenstad do not need to hand in the student card, which is also the access card for the dorm. But if students use a guest card for dorm access, it must be returned to the reception at INN.

If you have any questions regarding this, contact SINN or INN directly.

Receiving your diploma

All students will receive a digital or physical diploma for their completed degrees. It is not possible to receive both options.

Digital diplomas can be accessed via Vitnemålsportalen/the Diploma Registry and are considered an original document as they comply with international standards. If you need a paper duplicate (not the original), please order it for a fee.

Physical or digital diploma - what to choose?

  • International students with a Norwegian ID number may receive the diploma either digitally OR physically.
    • If you choose a digital option and you move out of Norway and lose the Norwegian ID, you will no longer be able to access your diploma.
    • If you have chosen the digital option, you cannot request a physical version at a later date.
  • International students without a Norwegian ID number will receive a physical diploma.

If you are to receive a physical diploma, please update your home address in StudentWeb before the last semester ends; whether your address is in Norway or abroad.

View our webpage for detailed information on how you will receive the diploma after completing your degree.

Staying in Norway

If you are interested in staying in Norway after your studies at INN, you might need a new residence permit.

EU/EEA citizens

You do not need a residence permit to look for or to have a job in Norway, nor to continue studying or living in Norway. However, please view the information below on permanent residence or Norwegian citizenship if you wish to stay in Norway indefinitely.

Non-EU/EEA citizens

If you currently hold a residence permit due to family immigration or protection (asylum) and strong humanitarian considerations, and you wish to continue studying or start working in Norway, please view the regulations for renewing your permit on UDI's webpages.

For additional questions regarding the type of permit you need to have to legally stay in Norway, please contact UDI directly.

Want to continue studying?

If you currently have a study permit and you have received admission to additional studies at INN or another institution in Norway, you will need to apply for a study permit renewal. Make sure to apply at least 1 month before your current study permit expires if you apply using eID (electronic ID). If you apply using a username and password, apply at least 2-3 months before it expires.

For additional information on study permit renewals, view UDI's webpages.

Want to apply for a job?

If you wish to look for a job, or you have found a job, you will need to apply for one of the options below. However, if you currently have a study permit, you cannot apply for a renewal based on your study permit; you have to apply for a new residence permit.

  • If you have yet to find a job, you can apply for a job seeker's residence permit.
  • If you have found a job, you must apply for a skilled work permit.

Read about this on our webpage for working in Norway.

Permanent residence or Norwegian citizenship

If you wish to stay in Norway indefinitely or want to become a Norwegian citizen, please view the UDI's webpages below for information on the requirements:

Too much stuff?

Adding an additional suitcase

The cheapest option might be to add an extra suitcase to your plane, train, or bus ticket, or to see if you have enough room in your car.

Give away or sell stuff

Anything you bought for your room and do not wish to bring home with you must be removed. Selling your stuff to the next-semester students is not guaranteed. The International Office will provide information about whether this is possible.

Otherwise, you can donate your stuff to the second-hand stores closest to your campus. If you want to donate sports equipment, you can do so to BUA. Another option is to sell your stuff to other Norwegian students in your dorm/area, or try to sell it to other citizens in your campus city/town through various Facebook groups. The International Office on your campus can provide recommendations of relevant groups.

Sending stuff home by post

If you cannot bring it with you, you might want to send some stuff home. Check the information on sending parcels for further details.
