Important information
Make sure to follow the links in the drop-down lists below to read in detail about the different topics.
Importance of writing the full address
You must use your full name and address whenever you send or receive letters and parcels. In such cases, you must include your room number next to your street and house number (if you live in a dorm).
Shipments you are expecting to receive or send that do not include the room numbers where needed may be returned to the sender.
Issues with customs declaration when receiving or sending parcels
Suppose your family/friends/yourself have sent a parcel to Norway, or you are sending one abroad, and the customs duties were not declared correctly/sufficiently. In that case, you may receive a notice in your mailbox or by email to provide additional information and pay the outstanding customs fee.
The letter requests that you add this information by logging in to a webpage. To log in, you need a Norwegian ID Number, a Norwegian bank account and Bank ID. If you do not have this, you need to apply for a TRK number.
If you need a TRK number, do the following:
- Go to the webpage of Tolletaten (Customs) and read about how to apply for a TRK number (external link).
- Apply ASAP, as it can take around 1 week for you to get the TRK number.
- If it takes longer for you to get the TRK number than the deadline you have for uploading the documents, do the following:
- Call Posten at +47 22030000.
- Choose English.
- An AI robot will answer the call. Ask to speak to the customer service desk. You may need to go back and forth with the AI for a bit, but keep asking to speak to the customer service desk.
- Inform them that you have applied for a TRK number but have not yet received it, and need an extension to upload sufficient documentation.
- Log in to the link as given in the email/by letter and upload the additional documentation. Remember to pay any outstanding fees (if relevant).
Parcel lockers and postal offices
Only for Campus Evenstad students
The reception functions as the closest "postal office". Contact the reception with any questions regarding postal services.
Parcel lockers
In addition to postal offices, there are "Parcel lockers" (pakkeboks) at various locations operated by postal services such as Posten, PostNord, and Instabox.
We do not recommend using parcel lockers unless you have a Norwegian bank account and bank ID. It is impossible to access your parcel through the accompanying apps without a bank ID. Therefore, please choose delivery at a regular postal office.
Regular postal offices
Please use Google Maps or a similar app to find the closest postal office. There are different postal offices around Lillehammer.
- Visit the website of Posten (post-in-store) - Norway and abroad (external link).
- Visit the website of PostNord (post-in-store) - only within Norway (external link).
- DHL/other: These can be located at gas stations, kiosks, and other places (external link).
Receiving parcels & letters
Campus Elverum, Hamar and Lillehammer
It is not possible to address post to the campuses. It must be sent directly to your accommodation.
Each accommodation has mailboxes where students can receive letters or small parcels. Some have their own, while others share a mailbox with the other students in their residence. Please ensure that your name is marked on the mailbox. If you do not do so, you will not receive any letters.
If you order something online, request delivery to a pickup point (such as a postal office). Delivering parcels to larger dorms, such as Smestad, can result in delays.
Campus Evenstad
All post are first delivered to the reception in Anne's Hus on campus, before it is sorted and put into the students post shelves in the main building. The mail in the post shelves is sorted by last name.
When giving out your postal address, provide your dorm or campus address.
Shipment status and more information
When you receive parcels from abroad, you can check their shipment status on Posten's/another postal company's website. Be aware of import duties for non-Norwegian companies; they also apply when your family sends you parcels.
Sending parcels and letters within Norway
Sending parcels and letters within Norway does not require customs duties. You can use other companies, but Posten is recommended because it provides a clear explanation on its webpage in English.

- Go to a Post Office to send your letter/postcard. They will add a stamp and send it. Remember to pay for the stamp.

More information on sending letters abroad can be found on Posten's website for sending letters abroad (external link).
Sending parcel
When sending a parcel abroad, be aware of applicable customs duties. This applies not only to new products but also to second-hand items or your own. Due to customs duties, it is essential to accurately note the contents of the parcel to prevent any delays or fines. We recommend that you fill out the customs declaration online. This is easier than the paper version at the Post Office.
Pay by card or VIPPS. VIPPS requires a Norwegian bank account. You will receive information on the next steps afterwards.
