Before leaving INN

There are various things you need to do before completing your exchange at INN.

What to remember

Please view the following drop-down list. You might also find relevant information on our webpage when you return home. If you cannot find information to your question(s), please contact the International Office on your campus.

Be social and make the most out of your last days and weeks

Spend time with the friends you have found.

Stay in touch after your excahnge has ended....

Closing down the Norwegian bank account (if applicable)

Please see your online bank/contact the bank for detailed information. Withdraw money or transfer the money to your foreign bank account before leaving Norway (fees may apply).

Confirmation from your home institution/scholarship (mainly Erasmus+/SEMP/EEA Grant students)

Most Erasmus+/SEMP/EEA Grant students will need a Confirmation of Departure/Stay/Attendance Certificate or a similar document signed upon departure. For some, this document can only be signed at the end or after their exchange is complete.

This document confirms that they have attended and/or will depart INN. It will be provided by the home institution, a governmental scholarship, or another scholarship, and must be signed by the International Office at INN.

Please be aware of the following:

  • Complete the document as much as possible with your name, home institution and more.
  • If your document has a departure date, final exam date, or end-of-semester date, add it or inform us of it. If your document does not say what date you must write, please check with your home institution.
  • If the wrong date is stated, you may be asked by your home institution to redo the document.
  • Check when your document must be signed. Some institutions require it to be signed a specific number of days before departure, on the same day as departure, or after departure; others do not.
  • Drop by the International Office with the document or send it to us by email.

If you are unsure whether or not you need this document, contact your home institution!

Figure out how to get your Transcript

Your Transcript of Records will be sent directly to your home institution after all exam results in your campus have been announced. View our page for after your departure for more informaiton on the Transcript of Records.

Final use of your Cash Card (if applicable)

This only applies to students who transferred a deposit to INN. You do not need to return the Cash Card to INN. Please use/withdraw the remaining money from your Cash Card before leaving Norway.

Too much stuff?

Adding an additional suitcase

The cheapest option might be to add an extra suitcase to your plane, train, or bus ticket, or to see if you have enough room in your car.

Give away or sell stuff

Anything you bought for your room and do not wish to bring home with you must be removed. Selling your stuff to the next-semester students is not guaranteed. The International Office will provide information about whether this is possible.

Otherwise, you can donate your stuff to the second-hand stores closest to your campus. If you want to give away sports equipment, you can donate it to BUA. Another option is to sell your stuff to other Norwegian students in your dorm/area, or try to sell it to other citizens in your campus city/town through various Facebook groups. The International Office on your campus can provide recommendations of relevant groups.

Sending stuff home by post

If you cannot bring it with you, you might want to send some stuff home. Check the information on sending parcels for further details.

Last day of required attendance

The date of your last required day of attendance may vary from that of other students. Check your course schedule to determine when your last exam is scheduled.

  • School and in-person oral exams: Require attendance at your campus of study. This marks your last day of required attendance.
  • Home exams and digital oral exams: These can be submitted from anywhere in the world. However, remember the Norwegian time zone. Your last day will be the day you must attend lectures or meet work requirements.

Moving out of your SINN or private accommodation

Private accommodation

Before you leave, you must clean your room and the common areas in accordance with your contract. If you have any questions, reach out to your landlord directly. The landlord will give you information on how and where to return your housing key.

SINN accommodation

Before you leave, you must clean your room and the common areas. Remember to clean your drawers, cabinets, and freezer in the shared kitchen. Bring everything you own with you. Put all trash in the appropriate trash can for disposal.

  • SINN provides a checklist of everything that must be cleaned in the SINN app. You can also find information on their moving-out webpage, including a video of what they will check during a cleaning check. Remember to turn on the English subtitles.
  • It is highly recommended that you order a cleaning check. A SINN staff member (INN cleaning/maintenance staff in Evenstad) will then come by your dorm to check how you cleaned and let you know if you need to clean more. It is not guaranteed that staff will be available when you wish to have a cleaning check, so make sure to reach out to them early and request an appointment. It is not recommended to leave before the cleaning check, as SINN will fine you if extra cleaning is needed and you cannot do it yourself.
  • After you have cleaned (and, if you had one, the cleaning check has been approved), you can hand in your key. The deadline to submit the key is the last weekday at 09:00 before your rental agreement expires. Information on keys is also provided on the moving-out webpage.
    • Students at Campus Evenstad do not need to hand in the student card, which is also the access card for the dorm. But if students use a guest card for dorm access, it must be returned to the reception at INN.

If you have any questions regarding this, contact SINN directly.

Reporting a move from Norway (2-semester students)

Reporting is only necessary if you have received a Norwegian ID number, not if you have a Norwegian D number. Visit the National Registry's webpage for more information (external link).

  • You can report a move online with a bank ID (if you have a Norwegian bank account).
  • Please use the paper version if you do not have a Norwegian bank account.

Save the schedules, study plan(s) and syllabus of your course(s) or programme(s)

Some institutions may require you to hand in the course schedule, study plan(s) (course description) and syllabus (reading list) at the end of your stay or after you have returned home. This mainly accounts for students studying in non-EU/EEA countries.

If your home institution has not yet informed you, double-check with them. However, it is recommended that all students download them to ensure they have access if needed.
