Short description
I have worked at the University of Inland Norway since January 1st 2020 and am employed as a professor in Special Education. Previously, I worked at Karlstad University, Sweden (2007-2022), and have worked as a Professor II at the Sámi University of Applied Sciences in Norway and been an adjunct research fellow at the Charles Darwin University in Australia. My PhD was focused on the meaning of music for First Nations children with autism in British Columbia, Canada. I defended my thesis in 2017 at the University of Eastern Finland. My research interests are among other things inclusion, diversity, Indigenous paradigms and methodologies and Indigenous perspectives on Special Education. From the fall 2025 until the end of 2029 I am leading a research project funded by the Norwegian Research Council on Sámi Experiences of Autism-SEA.
My upbringing in Canada has influenced many of my interests. Hairdresser was my first education before I went on to become a music therapist, teacher in music and English, and a special education teacher.
