(English below)
Samtalen vil også ta utgangspunkt i hennes nyeste film, David Ayers Heart of the Beast, med Brad Pitt i hovedrollen.
Hun ble Oscar-nominert og nominert til en ACE Eddie Award for Memento, og Emmy-nominert for Life with Judy Garland: Me and My Shadows.
“NEARLY EVERYTHING IS BASED ON A GUT INSTINCT.” - Masterclass with acclaimed Hollywood film editor Dody Dorn.
We look forward to welcoming American film editor Dody Dorn (ACE) to a masterclass at Vega Scene on 23 October. We will talk about her career working on some of Hollywood’s largest productions, as well as her approach to editing and collaboration. We will also touch on her latest film, David Ayer’s Heart of the Beast, starring Brad Pitt.
Dody’s career in film spans several decades and has moved between intimate character-driven storytelling and large action productions. She has taken an unusual path through both picture and sound editing, earning nominations and awards for her work in both fields. She was nominated for an Oscar and an ACE Eddie Award for Memento, and for a Primetime Emmy for Life with Judy Garland: Me and My Shadows. She won a Golden Reel Award for sound editing on The Abyss and the Hollywood Film Award for Editor of the Year for Fury.
Her work is characterised by a strong sense of rhythm and performance, and by keeping the emotional story at the centre, even in large-scale action sequences. As Dorn has said about editing Fury and Kingdom of Heaven: “The battles are thrilling, but really, the emotional thread is the most important thing.”
Dody collaborated with many significant directors throughout her career:Christopher Nolan(Insomnia and Memento),Zack Snyder(Army of the Dead, the two Rebel Moon films, Zack Snyder’s Justice League),Ridley Scott(Matchstick Men, Kingdom of Heaven and A Good Year); andDavid Ayer(End of Watch, Sabotage and Fury). She has described her work with Ayer as a process of discovery, using the possibilities within extensive footage to find the film in the editing room. Her latest collaboration with Ayer is Heart of the Beast, whichrecently premiered in Norwegian cinemas.
The masterclass is supported by the Norwegian Film Editors, Norwegian Film Union, Norwegian Film Institute and The Norwegian Film School.
