Bilateral exchange students from visa & visa-free countries
For the academic year 2026/2027, the minimum amount is:
- NOK 166 859 for one year (2026/2027), or
- NOK 75 845 NOK for autumn 2026, or
- NOK 91 014 NOK for spring 2027.
The last two options apply if you stay for only one semester.
To see the list of countries with visa-exemption agreements with Norway, visit the UDI webpage (external link).
Be aware that non-EU/EEA students on an Erasmus+/EEA scholarship do not have to submit their funds.
Consequences of not submitting the deposit
Students outside the EU/EEA/EFTA must deposit the requested amount (as stated above) into a Norwegian bank account. If you do not have a bank account in Norway, you may use the Deposit Account of INN.
The Norwegian Directorate of Immigration (UDI) (external link) enforces this rule strictly. They will, in most cases, not accept other means of documentation, such as a bank statement from a bank in your home country or financial guarantees from relatives or other third parties. If the UDI does not accept the documentation, it will affect the residence permit application for both
- the final result (the residence permit/visa application might be denied), and,
- the processing time (the length of the processing time of the application will be much longer than average, which is two months).
As a result, you will not obtain your residence permit/visa in time to start your studies.
Deposit account or Norwegian bank account
Students without a Norwegian personal ID number cannot open a Norwegian bank account abroad and transfer the requested amount to such accounts before applying for a residence permit/visa. They must transfer the deposit to INN's Deposit Account in DnB NOR ASA. The Deposit Account is reserved for international students from visa countries outside the EU/EEA.
Students with an existing Norwegian bank account or a Norwegian ID number, which enables them to open a bank account in Norway, must transfer their money to their bank account, not the INN Deposit Account. They must then request the confirmation of funds from their bank.
The International Office will provide further information by email to admitted students.
How to access the deposit after arrival
Information on accessing the deposit after arrival can be found in the immigration part of the onboarding guide.
How to transfer the deposit to the INN deposit account
1: Conditions
Funds needed to be transferred according to your stay at INN. View the amounts at the top of this page.
The money must be deposited in your own name.
- Your full name (according to passport) and date of birth must be included in the transfer as reference.
- If another person makes the transfer for you (e.g., a parent), they must also use your full name and date of birth as a reference.
Additional information
- Your bank is likely to charge a fee for the transfer of the one-semester/full-year deposit to the INN Deposit account. Please be aware of this when transferring.
- No interest is earned on the money deposited.
2: Deadlines
Make sure to transfer the money in your own name as soon as possible, and no later than 01st of June (autumn semester) and 01st of December (spring semester). Please ensure that you include your full name and date of birth as a reference.
- Students staying two semesters only have to deposit the amount once, within the deadline for their first semester at INN.
