Accessing your INN student account
All exchange students will be able to access their INN student account before the start of the semester. Please read the information in the drop-down lists below.
How to access - new to INN
Before the start of your exchange, you will receive two emails and a text message from the INN system (not the International Office):
- Email 1: Confirmation that you have been registered for the semester, and are signed up for the course(s) you will take.
- If you are enrolled as an internship student, you might not be signed up for any courses.
- Text message: A password has been set on your account. This is a temporary password that you will not gain access to. It is not a spam.
- Email 2: Your 6-digit student number and information on how to set a password to your account.
Once you have set the password, you have access to your student account and can log in to Canvas with FEIDE (student number and password).
We highly recommend that all students activates the two-factor authentication as described on the IT Department's webpage.
Guides to accessing your student account
You must wait until you receive the email with your 6-digit student number from INN’s system (not from the International Office) before you can use the guides below. Please follow them in the presented order:
- Accessing your INN student account (PDF)
- Entering Studentweb (PDF)
- Entering Canvas & changing the language (PDF)
PowerPoint versions of the guides are available via the International Office.
Issues receiving a code on your phone
Some phone numbers have issues receiving the code to set a password. In this case, please apply for a Norwegian phone number quickly after arrival. Remember to inform the International Office of your new number so they can update your student profile. You will after a few days have the possibility to set a password on your student profile.
Wrong phone number/changing your phone number
Please email the International Office so they can update your phone number. You will after a few days be able to set a password or change the password on your student profile.
How to access - returning to INN
If you have previously been enrolled as an exchange student at INN (no matter the campus), you will need assistance from the International Office to re-activate your INN student account.
After you have gained assistance, you can view the following documents for information on accessing the INN student systems.
PowerPoint versions of the guides are available via the International Office.
What can the student account be used for
The INN student account is necessary for you to:
- Enter all IT systems.
- Borrow books and making use of the resources offered at the Library.
- Gain a student access card.
- Gain access to the campus buildings outside of regular work hours.
- Complete any work requirements.
- Complete any exam(s).
- Enter the Eduroam Wi-Fi.
- Gain student benefit for parking on campus.
Different log-in methods
Please be aware that the various systems use different log-in methods:
- Eduroam (student number@inn.no & password): Campus Wi-Fi (and dorms at Evenstad).
- FEIDE (student number & password): Studentweb, Canvas, Wiseflow, TP, student access card application, Oria.
- Student email (student number@stud.inn.no & password): Microsoft Office 365.
When to expect access
Access is granted according to the semester you start your exchange INN:
- Autumn semester: Access is granted starting from early July.
- Spring semester: Access is granted starting from early December/early January.
However, please note that it is the International Office that creates your INN student account. You will receive specific information on when to expect access directly from them, as it may vary from campus to campus.
Starting an internship outside of the regular semester dates
Access will be given to you before your arrival, as long as the International Office in your campus and faculty has received all the information necessary from you to have your account created.
Please get in touch with the International Office if you have any questions, or if you have not received information from them on when you can expect access a few weeks before the start of the semester.
What to prepare
When you have received admission for exchange at INN, there are certain things you will need to look into.
Accommodation
View our webpage on accommodation for detailed information.
Long-term exchange
All exchange students are recommended to apply for accommodation with SINN housing. Students applying for one or two semesters are guaranteed accommodation with SINN if they apply within the International Office's deadline. However, the type of housing and the location are not guaranteed. Contracts are given on a first-come first-serve basis.
We do not recommend that students look at the private market, as it can be very challenging to find relevant accommodation from abroad.
- An exception may apply for students coming to Campus Lillehammer with the BoligSwap offer. Offers vary per semester.
Short-term exchange
Students coming to INN for a short-term exchange, such as a week, a month, or a few months, must review the information provided by the International Office via email.
Changing or removing courses before arrival
It might be possible to change or remove courses before your arrival. It depends on the course offer at your campus: whether there are limited spots, whether you have the required prerequisites (if any), and other aspects.
Email the International Office for further information. All students must either create a new LA/OLA if the previous one is accepted, or use the "During the Mobility" section, depending on the home institution's requirements.
Erasmus+ students
- Make changes in the Online Learning Agreement (also known as Digital Learning Agreement).
- Use the paper version of your home institution's or INN's version of the Learning Agreement to make changes.
Other students
Use one of the following options
- For students using Microsoft Word: Learning Agreement - Bilateral - Changes (Word)
- This version allows you to use the drop-down lists in the document.
- For students not using Microsoft Word: Learning Agreement - Bilateral - Changes (not Word)
- This version allows you to write text where the first version uses drop-down lists. This format is suitable for students using Google Docs or similar.
Course schedules
The following guidelines can be followed without having access to the student account:
Course schedules are usually published between June and July (for the autumn semester) and in December (for the spring semester). This may vary from campus to campus.
After accessing the INN student account, course schedules can also be found in Canvas. In some cases, the Canvas room for your lecture might not be published until after the first lecture. It is therefore highly recommended that all exchange students check TP for the schedule of their first lectures.
Issues with courses (collisions, combinations)
Taking courses across programmes (Campus Evenstad and Hamar), or across fields of study (Campus Lillehammer), are not guaranteed due to course collisions. Students who have applied for uncertain combinations in Campus Lillehammer will receive information about the situation and the next steps.
Please contact the International Office on your campus for further information.
Curriculum (syllabus/reading list)
The library has a detailed webpage that explains where and how to find the reading lists for your course(s).
If you are enrolled in a semester programme at Campus Evenstad or Hamar, you will need to search for the reading list of each of the courses in the programme.
Elite sport students
INN collaborates with Olympiatoppen to enable elite athletes to pursue their studies while maintaining a focus on their sporting ambitions. Athletes applying for elite sport student status at INN must demonstrate a performance level that necessitates regular travel and absence due to training sessions and national and/or international competitions. This level generally corresponds to national team or global representation, as well as to top-division games in team sports. The level may also apply to athletes from talent groups or teams in the top category, organised in line with or as a supplement to national teams. In terms of performance, the athlete must perform regularly at a high national level.
View the detailed webpages for elite sport students for more information.
If this applies to you, please contact the International Office at your campus.
Financing your exchange
You might be wondering how to finance your exchange at INN or whether you can get a part-time job while on exchange. Read more about this topic on our financing your exchange webpage.
Health, travel and other insurances
All exchange students are required to have a valid health insurance during their stay at INN. Travel insurance is highly recommended. Some might also need additional insurances for extreme sports, such as mountain climbing, skiing, etc.
You can find detailed information various insurances on our insurance webpage.
How to sign up for courses and exams
The International Office will ensure you are signed up for your courses and exams based on the courses approved in the LA/OLA. Students are signed up for courses during the following periods:
- Autumn semester courses: Sign-up is done between June and early-August.
- Spring semester courses: Sign-up is done between November and mid-January.
You do not need to sign up for any courses yourself in the INN database.
Checking which courses you are signed up for
After you have gained access to your INN student account, you can log in to Studentweb to verify that you are signed up for the correct courses. Do not use Canvas to check this, as you may be signed up for a course, but the course room may not be published when you gain access to your student account.
Immigration before arrival
All non-EU/EEA citizens must apply for a study permit for their exchange period.
EU/EEA citizens do not need a study permit or register their stay prior to arrival.
Detailed information on immigration before arrival can be found on our webpage.
Information about exams
Laws and regulations at INN
Exchange students are recommended to familiarise themselves with the laws and regulations at INN.
Medication and vaccinations
Familiarise yourself with the rules and regulations on which medications you can bring to Norway for your exchange, and if you require any vaccinations. View our webpage for detailed information on medications and vaccinations.
Planning your arrival
How do you want to travel to Norway? By plane? By train and/or bus? Or do you want to come by car? What should you pack for your exchange? There are several things to consider regarding your arrival. View our planning your arrival webpage for detailed information.
Special needs in everyday study situation
Do you have a disability, special need or illness that affects your everyday life as a student? If so, you can apply for adaptation. View the INN webapge for special needs in everyday study situation. Remember the application deadline.
Please be aware that some of the measures offered are not eligible for you as an international student, as they are offered by the Norwegian Government, not INN. You will need to have the adaptive measures arranged in your home country or by your home institution, and bring them/it to INN. This includes such as sign language interpreter and speech-to-text interpreter, aquiring a guide dog, special grants (e.g. through Erasmus+), and technical aids to complete your education.
Therefore, we highly recommend that you are in touch with the International Office at your campus of study as soon as possible (if relevant), so we can assist with finding relevant measures for you.
Adaptation at your SINN accomodation
If you are in need of adaptation at your SINN accommodation, it is very important that you inform the International Office and SINN as soon as possible. SINN has a certain amount of homes with universal design in Elverum, Hamar and Lillehammer. In Evenstad, they try their best to accommodate according to the needs.
Special exam arrangements
If you need special exam arrangements for medical or other reasons, you can apply after receiving access to your student profile. Such arrangements can be can be extended time on an exam, use of assistive tools, physical workplace adjustments etc. Remember the application deadline.
You must add valid documentation confirming your needs in English, Norwegian, Swedish, or Danish with your application. Additional information on special exam arrangements can be found on our exams webpage.
Student ID app
For identification (proof that you are a student), you need to download the "Studentbevis" app and sign in with your INN student account through FEIDE (student number and password). However, the identification is only valid when you have a photo in the app.
Further information on the Digital Student ID can be found on the SIKT webpage (external link).
Another
How to get a photo in the student ID app
The image you submit with your application for an access card will be added to your student ID profile. This means you must apply for an access card to have your picture added to the "Studentbevis" app. View the INN webpages for instructions on ordering the student access card and finding the 4-digit PIN code for the card.
The student access card is free, but it is not a valid student ID or a payment card. If there are any issues with your application, you will receive a text message explaining the problem. Google translate it if needed and apply again. If you are unsure, visit the Servicepunkt (help desk) on campus. The access card must be printed on campus.
