Nordic citizens
Nordic citizens (Norwegian, Swedish, Danish, Icelandic or Finnish) do not need to visit the Police Station for registration if they stay for less than six (6) months. However, if they plan to stay in Norway for more than six (6) months, they must register a move to Norway at the Tax Office. The closest Tax Office that processes such cases is in Gjøvik or Hamar.
This must be done within eight (8) days after arrival. If no appointments are available, select the earliest. The International Office does not book this appointment for you. Detailed information can be found on the following web pages:
- The Norwegian Directorate for Immigration in English (external link).
- The Norwegian Directorate for Immigration in Norwegian (external link).
In addition, students must deliver a copy of the immigration confirmation from Skatteetaten to the International Office at their campus. Drop by the Office or forward a copy by email.
Other EU/EEA citizens
What you need to do depends on how long you will be staying in Norway.
- Less than 90 days: No registration necessary.
- Up to 6 months: Complete steps 1-5.
- More than 6 months: Complete steps 1-7, with 8 and 9 being optional.
- Students who have previously resided in Norway for more than six months and who received a Norwegian National Identification Number during their last stay only need to complete step 5 (reporting a move and booking an ID check with the Tax Office) within 8 days of arrival (external link).

- Select your nationality.
- Click "How to register".
- Fill in Evenstad, Hamar or Lillehammer as the Municipality.
