Autumn semester

See the information below for information on what happens during your first days on campus in the autumn semester.

Campus Elverum

Each August, at the start of the new academic year, a Buddy Week is arranged for all new international and Norwegian students. This includes events and activities designed to help new students better understand the town of Elverum and fellow students. The International Office will provide detailed information close to the start of the semester.

Campus Evenstad

All (international and Norwegian) students start their semester together with an Orientation Day, where they gain relevant information about Evenstad and the area. Afterwards, students head to their study programme for academic content and more. Exchange and international full-degree students will receive general information about the surrounding area and campus, in addition to the “right to roam.”

Later in the day, all new (international and Norwegian) students will be divided into groups for the start of Fadderuka. Students will be mixed randomly, independent of their study programme, study level, language, and nationality.
Various events, such as the “Evenstad Olympics,” BBQs, dinners, and others, are arranged. These events and activities are designed for new students to get to know the town of Evenstad and their fellow students.

Campus Hamar

Fadderuka

During the first week after the summer break, Campus Hamar organises Buddy Week (Norwegian: Fadderuka) for all new students. The Week is filled with fun activities, and it is highly recommended that students participate, whether for just a few days or the whole week. Additionally, the activities connected to Buddy Week in Hamar are free of charge.

Students will be divided into groups with fellow students and buddies. There will be plenty of opportunities for oneself to get to know fellow students, study programmes, the campus, and the city of Hamar.

Starting the exchange semester

The first activities will be organised by the relevant study programmes. Afterwards, students will be randomly assigned to smaller groups accompanied by several Norwegian buddies. All exchange students will then have the opportunity to participate in all activities arranged during the Buddy Week.

Further information will be provided by the International Office before the start of the Buddy Week.

Campus Lillehammer

Fadderuka

With the start of the new academic year each August, Fadderuka is arranged for all students. This week is filled with events and activities designed to help new students get to know the city of Lillehammer and their fellow students. This may include rebuses, guided tours at Maihaugen, concerts, etc. Participating is highly recommended, whether it is just a few activities or the whole week.

Please notice that not all events are free of charge. Students can purchase the festival pass (Norwegian: fadderbånd) starting on the first day of the fall semester.

You can follow Fadderuka on social media. Please note that most posts will be in Norwegian.

Starting the exchange semester

The first week of the autumn semester includes the Orientation Day for exchange students, followed by events arranged by the International Office and Fadderuka. Students will be split into random groups participating in the social events. Lectures will start the same week or the following week, depending on the selected courses.

The International Office in Lillehammer organises a Welcoming Week with smaller activities in the afternoons and evenings for exchange students after Fadderuka. The majority of events are free of charge.

Exchange students will receive detailed information about all these events during Orientation Day, the first day of the semester. Events and happenings may vary by semester.

Spring semester

See the information below for information on what happens during your first days on campus in the spring semester.

Campus Elverum

Campus Evenstad

The spring semester (January/February) starts with an Orientation Day for all international exchange students. Students are provided with relevant information about safety in the area, especially how to dress in the cold, and to relate to the wind and ice. Students are also assigned tasks outdoors where they must guide themselves through terrain using GPS (not on phone) and navigation. This may vary from spring to spring.

The Buddies will arrange dinners and possibly other events suitable for the time of the year in the afternoons/evenings. Other enrolled students are often invited to join some of these events.

Contact the International Office in Campus Evenstad for further information.
