Information about trainseeship opportunities
When will I get information about my options, and where can I go?
This depends on your study program. See the information on our traineeships during your studies page. More detailed information will be provided directly by your faculty or the International Office during your studies.
If your program does not include internship opportunities, you can apply to do a traineeship abroad after completing your degree.
Do I need to attend an interview?
For study programs where traineeships are a mandatory part of the curriculum, you must attend an interview to be eligible for a traineeship abroad. If you are unsure about the interview process, contact the International Office at your faculty.
Funding
Can I get an Erasmus+ grant regardless of where I go for my traineeship?
No, Erasmus+ grants are restricted to traineeships within the EU and EEA. For example, if you plan to do a traineeship in a kindergarten or school in Tanzania, you will not qualify for Erasmus+ support. Additionally, the traineeship must last at least 60 days (2 months).
Will I receive support from Lånekassen while on a traineeship?
If you usually qualify for support from Lånekassen, you will also receive it during your traineeship abroad. In addition to the basic support, you may receive travel support if you are traveling to a country outside the Nordic region and your stay lasts more than 4 weeks.
I want to travel sustainably to my host institution abroad. What should I do?
If you are an Erasmus+ student, you can receive additional funding for traveling sustainably if you can document that over 50% of your journey is completed using environmentally friendly transport methods, such as buses or trains.
Visa
Do I need a visa to go on a traineeship abroad, and where can I find information?
The International Office will inform you whether or not you need a visa after your application has been approved. Remember that the visa process begins only after you have been assigned a traineeship placement.
Should I choose a "single-entry" or "multiple-entry" visa?
If you choose a multiple-entry visa, you will be able to enter and leave your host country multiple times. This is useful if you need to return to Norway temporarily or want to travel to other countries during your stay abroad.
With a single-entry visa, there is no guarantee you will be allowed back into your host country if you leave.
If you plan to travel while on a traineeship abroad, be aware of the entry requirements and restrictions for each country you visit, as well as the rules for returning to your host country during your traineeship.
Insurance
Do I need extra insurance for my internship abroad, and where can I find information?
Your faculty or the International Office will inform you about the insurance requirements for your internship abroad.
Before Departure
Do I need to register for the semester and pay the semester fee to INN?
Yes, you must do this as usual in Studentweb to retain your student status at INN. This applies whether you are doing a traineeship abroad during your studies or after graduation.
Why do I need to submit the Declaration of Personal Information?
The form provides us with details about your planned stay, emergency contacts, insurance, and more. This is helpful for both you and us in case of an emergency during your exchange.
If the information in your submitted form changes, it is your responsibility to inform your international coordinator at INN about the updates.
Where can I find information about safety abroad?
All INN students traveling abroad as part of their studies must familiarize themselves with INN’s Safety Guidelines for Studying Abroad.
During Your Stay
I have not received my Erasmus+ grant yet. What should I do?
It may take up to four weeks after submitting the required documents for the payment to be processed. If it takes longer, contact your international coordinator at INN.
I would like to help promote mobility opportunities for other students. How can I do this?
You can help promote mobility opportunities for other students through INN's Instagram account (@universitetetinnlandet). Feel free to tag us in your posts, reels, and stories, and we may repost some of your content. Follow @universitetetinnlandet and send a message if you are interested in sharing your experiences with us.
You can also do an Instagram takeover to: 1) Showcase your daily life in the country you’re studying in, and/or 2) Highlight a special event (e.g., cherry blossom season in Japan, Oktoberfest in Germany, or the 4th of July in the USA).
After Returning Home
I already miss the mobility experience abroad and the international environment! What can I do?
If you miss the international environment after your mobility, you can become a buddy ("fadder") for international students at INN. This is a rewarding experience that creates lasting memories. You can help foster a welcoming environment for international students at your campus. Being a mentor involves planning activities, providing support, and assisting students throughout the semester.
I want to help promote mobility opportunities for other INN students. How can I do this?
You can participate in information sessions for your study program or other relevant programs and share your mobility experience. Let the international coordinator for your study program know, and they will involve you when needed.
