Illness or valid absence during exam

If you are ill on the day of an exam or have another valid reason for not taking the exam, you can have a valid absence approved. In case of a valid absence, you do not use up an exam attempt, and you get the opportunity to take a  continuation exam.

Documentation must be submitted to the university as soon as possible, and no later than within 3 working days after examination. If the deadline expires on a weekend, it will be extended to the next working day. If you have problems submitting documentation within the deadline, contact the study administration at your faculty.

What is valid absence?

Valid absence must be documented by the student and can be approved on the basis of the following:

  • Own illness or illness of someone towards whom you have care responsibilities
  • Childbirth
  • The death of a close relative
  • Funeral or burial in your immediate family or others with whom you have a close relationship
  • Other compelling reasons beyond your control.

Private travel, work-related absence, etc. are not considered a valid absence from an exam.

If you do not provide documentation of absence, the un-taken exam will be registered as an attempt.

Valid documentation

Valid documentation consists of a doctor's certificate, confirmation of birth/term or equivalent certificates. The name of the doctor/expert must appear in the documentation, and the documentation mus be dated. It must be clear from the certificate that you were ill on the day of the exam. If you become ill during the examination and thus have to terminate an ongoing examination, the doctor's statement must be dated to the day of the examination in order to be valid.

Deadline for submitting documentation

Documentation must be submitted to INN University as soon as possible, and no later than three working days after the examination. If the deadline expires on a weekend, it will be extended to the next working day.

If you have problems submitting documentation within the deadline, contact the study administration at your faculty.

Where the medical certificate should be delivered

Submit or send documentation to the faculty that is responsible for the course or to your contact point. Medical certificates contain sensitive information and should not be sent by email. You can use the web form for secure file submission.

You will not receive an answer that we have received your doctor's certificate, but will see that it is registered in Studentweb. You will only see this when the examination deadline for the exam is out.

The medical certificate is shredded after it has been registered in our systems and will not be returned.

Absence from an exam / failure to submit an exam

If you do not attend an exam, you will be registered as absent and as having used one exam attempt. The same applies if you do not submit a completed exam (digital exam, home exam, portfolio assessment, and similar forms of examination) within the given deadline.

Students who do not attend an exam or do not submit an answer without a valid reason are not allowed to take the continuation exam, and must wait until the next ordinary exam is offered.
