Preparations for home examinations

Before the actual home exam, we recommend that you prepare both your own PC and get to know Inspera as a system.

Technical requirements

Check the following points in good time before a home exam/submission:

Working computer and necessary programs

  • You must have access to a working computer. It is a good idea to install any updates to the operating system on your computer in advance of the exam, so that you avoid the risk of automatic updates while the exam is in progress.
  • In order to use Inspera, you must have access to a web browser. Inspera supports the latest two versions of the following browsers: Microsoft Edge, Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome and Apple Safari. Note: If you experience problems using Safari on Mac, try Google Chrome.
  • If the exam is carried out as a file upload in Inspera, you need access to a writing program to write your exam answer. As a student at HINN, you have access to Office 365, which includes the writing program Microsoft Word.
  • Exam papers are often given in PDF format, so it is important that you have installed a program on your computer that can open/read PDF files.

Internet

Check that you have access to the internet at home (wired or wireless). If you are at the university, you can connect to the wireless network (eduroam).

Username and password

  • As a student, you log on to Inspera with your FEIDE account. It is therefore advisable that before the exam you check that your FEIDE account is working, this can be tested by logging into Inspera or Canvas. If you have problems with your password, you can create a new password on the Self-service portal.
  • External candidates are normally sent their own username and password to log on to Inspera via e-mail in advance of the exam.

Get to know Inspera as a system

We recommend that you perform a demo test before the exam so that you can test your computer and get to know Inspera. The demo sample for home exams/submission shows examples of both file uploads and task types to be answered directly in Inspera.

How to perform a demo test in Inspera

  • Log in to Inspera
  • Go to "Demo tests", find "Demo home exam/hand in exam" and click  on "Start test".
  • Take the demo test. Note: Both the spell checker and the drawing tool may be disabled during the exam in some subjects.
  • Go to the submission page and click on "Submit now".
  • Remember that you can take the demo test as many times as you like.
