Interdisciplinarity in teacher education is the central focus underscoring the importance of how teacher education remains on the cutting edge of progressive and hopeful changes in schools. From 2020-2024 a team of 10 staff from LUP and led by CCL participated in the Bridging the gaps in teacher education and schools through interdisciplinary work (BRIDGES) research project in collaboration with colleagues at USN and UiT-Arctic University of Norway. BRIDGES aimed to produce new research-based knowledge and practice for teacher education that would support the training of teachers to better implement the new interdisciplinary themes that were brought into the new National Curriculum in Norway in 2020.

This open-access book emerged out of work and findings of this project, and it argues that interdisciplinary work is decisive in the rapidly changing educational landscape and a future fraught with uncertainties. Furthermore, there is a need to collaborate across different disciplines to address the social and political challenges we face by bridging the gaps between what is advocated for at a national level and what is taught in schools. Staff from LUP contributed to 6 chapters in this book.
