Om utdanningen

This programme, taught in English language, is interdisciplinary, comprised of contributions from Education in Natural Science, Social Science, and Religious Education. The programme will provide students with insight into the Nordic response to the call for Education for Diversity and Sustainable Living. Students will approach the issue theoretically and practically, through observation and involvement in educational practices. The programme will prepare students to be critical discussants on how to educate for diversity and sustainable living.

The programme is at bachelor level and all teaching and teaching materials are in English. The programme is offered in autumn semester (from August to December) and composes 3 courses with 10 ECTS credits each:

  • Course 1  «Education for Sustainable Living and the Nordic Welfare State»
  • Course 2  «Environmental education»
  • Course 3  «Nordic perspectives on cultural and religious diversity»

Teaching is organized as lectures, workshops, web discussions, practical laboratory work, seminars and student presentations.

Mixing international and Norwegian students

This 30 credit unit is for both Norwegian and international students. International students can apply as free movers or as Exchange students

Læringsutbytte

Upon completing a full semester programme in Education for Sustainability and Global Citizenship, candidates will have acquired the following learning outcomes defined in terms of knowledge, skills and general competence:

  • understands the interrelationship between individual responsibility and collective action
  • understands the role of civil society and the development of global society
  • has knowledge of central theories related to culture, identity, and religion in diverse societies

  • has insight into ecological processes and biodiversity and the science of environmental sustainability
  • has knowledge of the discourses related to education for sustainable living
  • has knowledge of the Nordic welfare model

  • can identify systems and processes that determine lifestyle and livelihood patterns
  • can critically reflect on and discuss theories related to culture, identity, and religion in diverse societies
  • can acquire, assess and use information to achieve a more sustainable future

  • is able to discuss values upon which good quality of life is based

  • has an understanding of the complexity and interrelatedness of issues about education for sustainability and global citizenship

Opptakskrav

Higher Education Entrance Qualification. Norwegian language proficiency is not required.
