Espen Stranger-Johannessen er høgskolelektor på  Senter for praksisrettet utdanningsforskning (SePU), hvor han blant annet jobber med skole- og barnehageutvikling og et forskningsprosjekt om bruk av kunstig virkelighet i matematikkundervisningen.

Bakgrunn

Espen tok en ph.d. ved University of British Columbia i Department of Language and Literacy Education, hvor han disputerte 7. desember 2017. Avhandlingen The African Storybook and Teacher Identity tar for seg læreridentitet i forbindelse med nettressursen African Storybook rettet mot barn i Afrika, som tilbyr digitale fortellinger på over hundre språk. Basert på Darvin og Nortons (2015) modell for identitet og investering, studerte forfatteren ugandiske barneskolelæreres investering i African Storybook og hvordan identitetene deres endret seg gjennom bruken av fortellingene og de teknologiske verktøyene. Bruken av fortellingene utvidet lærernes repertoar av undervisningsmetoder og temaer. Espen har utviklet Barnebøker for Norge basert for disse afrikanske fortellingene, en nettressurs for lærere og foreldre for å fremme leseferdigheter og flerspråklighet i Norge.
