The Cash Card (“Kronekortet” in Norwegian) is a temporary bank card which grants you access to your deposit at the INN Deposit Account. It has fewer functions than a regular debit card.
App and online purchases
The cash card cannot be used for app or online purchases. It can only be used in physical stores. It is not a debit card connected to a single account. You can apply for a debitcard when opening your Norwegian bank account.
Lost cash card or forgotten PIN-code
It is extremely important that you do not lose the card or forget your PIN code.
- If you lose your card, you must inform the International Office as soon as possible. The Economy Department will then be notified to block your card. However, this is only possible during their working hours (Monday to Friday, 9 am to 3 pm).
- Your card will be deactivated if you forget the PIN code or enter it incorrectly three (three) times.
- Contact the International Office as soon as possible if this happens.
In both situations, you will need a new cash card, and a new “Declaration” must be signed. Depending on the availability of cash cards from the Economy Department, it may take up to 2 weeks to receive a new card. If there is money left on your lost cash card, it will be transferred to the new one.
The Economy Department might charge a NOK 600 fee for a lost card/forgotten PIN code.
Reloading the cash card with money
It is possible to request more money on your cash card while you wait to create a Norwegian bank account. The additional transfer will be NOK 10.000 unless you request a higher amount. Please be aware that your cash card will not be automatically reloaded with your deposit. You need to request a transfer.
To request more money on your cash card, you need to:
- Send an email to the International Office requesting a specific amount.
- The International Office forwards the request to the Economy Department.
- The Economy Department transfers the money within 2-5 working days and sends an email to you confirming that the transfer has started.
- Check your balance at an ATM to see if the transfer is complete.
