About Kristine

  • Student from Vidzeme University of Applied Sciences in Latvia.
  • Exchange student at INN, Campus Lillehammer, autumn 2023.
  • Studied:
    • Autumn semester: Event Management, Corporate Finance and Norwegian Language course for beginners.

Why did you choose INN as your exchange destination?

Although exchange studies are not mandatory at our university, I knew from the beginning that I would definitely want to try this opportunity. There were a lot of factors why I chose INN as my exchange destination: the Scandinavian mentality, the distance to my home country, and, of course, the city itself, which is very similar to the city where I come from. I am not a big fan of big cities, so Lillehammer was a perfect option. I was also encouraged, because I went on an exchange together with someone I knew from my home university.

How would you describe your time as an exchange student at INN?

Full of emotions and experiences, new friends and the feeling of being welcome, because INN had taken care of everything so that we could enjoy our exchange semester for 100%. Exchange studies at INN allowed me to get to know not only Norway better, but also other cultures, as there were about 100 exchange students from more than ten different countries, each with their own vision of life. The people I met and the exchange studies themselves are unlike any other experience and these memories will definitely live for a long time. This is definitely the best life choice I have made so far. I will always remember all memories with a big smile :)

What is the best memory of your exchange at INN?

It is hard to choose just one best memory when there are so many memorable ones. I definitely enjoyed the events organized by the International Office, like the hike to Besseggen, although I was scared because it would be my first big hike in the mountains, however, I chose to take the shortest route, which did not disappoint and was wonderful. The Christmas dinner, where we all got together for the last time. Photo orienteering at the beginning of the semester and much more. Many thanks to the International Office for that :) Also, the orientation week, where you can make friends with other students, will be memorable.

You can make friendships and memories that last for a lifetime during your exchange. And take great hikes, such as up Balbergkampen.

What are your best tips for future exchange students?

Use as many of the opportunities offered by INN as possible, as this way you will gain both experience and friends for life. There are many opportunities, from participating in various student organisations to volunteering opportunities, and so much more. The main thing is not to be afraid and to get involved. And, of course, to find time for studies, free time, and to get to know Norway. It is all about balance.

How has your exchange influenced or benefitted you?

The exchange studies definitely opened up a wider horizon for me, I gained more self-confidence and that everything is possible in life if you let yourself be. It also made it easier for me to choose the topic of my bachelor's thesis and realise it very successfully, because it was closely related to Norway. Even now at work, it makes it easier for me to understand colleagues in Scandinavia, so I would say that this experience in Norway helps me a lot in daily life.

Anything you wish to add?

I would like to say just thanks for the warm welcome and all the wonderful memories during my exchange semester :)
