Quality and the dissertation
Work on the dissertation follows research quality norms and is conducted in accordance with the Regulations relating to the Degree of Philosophiae Doctor (PhD) at Inland Norway University of Applied Sciences (INN University). Through the quality work, the doctoral education should facilitate follow up PhD students in their doctoral course from start to finish. Upon admission, a project description must be in place, and the main supervisor and co-supervisors are appointed. In addition, the PhD student is assigned to a research group.
Regular academic supervision is a central part of the work on quality in dissertation work. In addition, participation in research groups where the PhD students present their work at different stages. Among other things, they present research design and research ethical reflections before data collection starts.
The PhD student and main supervisor report biannually on the progress of the dissertation work. The progress reports are included in the biannual report on the quality work written by the PhD leader, processed in the PhD committee, and forwarded to the dean. The biannual reports form the basis for the annual quality report summarizing the academic year. It is forwarded to the dean and HINN's R&D committee by the vice dean of research and is made available to PhD students and the academic community in PROFF's common room in Canvas.
For work on quality in the thesis, the midway evaluation and 90% evaluation are central milestones in the individual PhD student's journey. In these evaluations, a reader reads draft texts. The reader is from outside the PhD student’s supervision team, normally an internal INN University midway reader and an external final reader.
Quality and the course component
In all courses, course literature and work methods are reviewed each time the course is offered. The person responsible for the course and the PhD leader cooperate on this. The PhD committee annually determines how the evaluation of the courses should take place. In the academic year 20223-2024, the evaluation takes place on the last course day according to a predetermined template based on the course's learning outcome descriptions. The participants choose a person who summarizes the evaluation in writing. The evaluation is forwarded to the PhD committee and posted in the course’s Canvas room. When the PhD committee processes the evaluation, the course responsible and a representative of the PhD students participate.
