PROTECT invited researchers from Karlstad University (KAU), the Centre for Societal Risk Research (CSR), the Swedish Defence University and the Norwegian Defence Research Establishment (FFI) to explore ongoing research and initiatives in the total defence domain.

The day was opened by the business development manager from Åmot Municipality, who emphasised the importance of the tripartite collaboration between PROTCT, the Armed Forces, and the host municipality.

Following an introduction to PROTECT's research, education, exercise universe and current collaborations, CSR presented their activities, including their RiskLab, and discussed how research, education, and partnerships are conducted within their framework.

Before the coffee break, FFI outlined their mission, key initiatives, and research efforts in the field of total defence. Afterward, the Swedish Defence University shared insights into their collaboration with KAU and other institutions in Sweden’s higher education sector, focused on developing 'Campus Total Defence'. While awaiting Norway's forthcoming parliamentary message on the model mandate, participants were impressed by Sweden’s NATO-era advancements and the progress in civil-military research and education partnerships.

The final segment of the programme featured Fynd Reality AS and PROTECT showcasing digital tools and their applications, followed by a VR demonstration for attendees.

The gathering provided participants with valuable experience and insights into approaches on both sides of the Scandinavian border, including priorities, focus areas, and frameworks for civil-military collaboration in research and education.
