Publishing research data
Research data should be “as open as possible, as closed as necessary.” INN maintains an institutional collection within the national DataverseNO repository where researchers can publish datasets from all fields and disciplines.
Open research increasingly requires the sharing and reuse of research data. Norway and the EU follow the guiding principle that research data should be “as open as possible, as closed as necessary.” Researchers at INN can publish research data in DataverseNO.

Why publish data in DataverseNO?
Benefits of archiving research data
- Transparency builds trust in research and enhances reproducibility.
- DataverseNO meets the institution’s data‑sharing requirements.
- Researchers gain increased visibility and are cited more frequently.
- DataverseNO follows the FAIR principles (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable), making datasets more usable for others.
- DataverseNO provides secure, long‑term storage, using stable and accessible file formats.
Requirements for archived materials
- The dataset must not contain personal data or confidential information.
- At least one author must be affiliated with a Norwegian institution.
- A clear description of the dataset (metadata and a README file) must be included.
