Report research findings in NVA
In the Norwegian Research Information Repository (NVA), publications, projects, and other research activities are registered, and as well as scientific publications, master's theses, and doctoral dissertations are made openly available in the archive.
The Norwegian Research Information Repository (NVA)
NVA is used to report INN's scientific publications to the Ministry of Education and Research through NVI reporting.
NVA replaced both Cristin and the local Open Rearch Archive, Brage, in the autumn of 2025. All content from Brage has been transferred to NVA.
Annual Deadlines
1st February: Deadline for registering publications from the previous year.
30th November: Deadline for proposing new publication channels to level 1 for the current publication year.
As a scientific employee, you are responsible for ensuring that scientific publications and activities are registered and archived in NVA.

What should be registered in NVA?
Researchers must register their scientific publications in NVA, but also artistic development work and research (KUF results) must be registered.
We recommend that you register all types of research results, dissemination, and artistic activities (conference contributions, professional lectures, and interviews). This way, you help to highlight research and dissemination at INN.

How to register
Search NVA before registering a result.
Many scientific articles are imported into the NVA system from Scopus. Publications that are not imported must be registered manually. It's your responsibility as a researcher to ensure that all publications are correctly registered in NVA.
Results only need to be recorded once. A publication can e.g. be registered by a co-author or imported. Then you only need to check that you are entered with the correct name (linked) and institution affiliation.
You are free to register previous works that have not already been entered in the database. This can be done at any time, regardless of the deadline.
Scientific publishing and publication points
All scientific publications at INN must be registered and uploaded in NVA. The university library ensures that publications approved for credit meet the national criteria specified in Reporting instructions (NVI).
Self-archiving/uploading of scholarly publications in NVA
INN supports that all publicly funded Norwegian research articles being openly available. Full text (published or AAM version) must therefore be uploaded to NVA.
[See the self-archiving web page for more information about different article versions and the choice of CC licences].
Author affiliations and crediting
In scholarly publishing, authors must provide one or more research institution(s) as their affiliations, and the institution's name must be stated in the publication itself (crediting).
University of Inland Norway’s (INN's) guidelines for affiliations and crediting in scientific publications are aligned with the NVI reporting instructions:
1. An institution shall be listed as the author’s affiliation in a scholarly publication if the institution has made a necessary and substantial contribution to, or provided the basis for, an author's participation in the published work.
2. The same author shall also list other institutions as author affiliations if those institutions, in each individual case, also satisfy the requirement in point 1. The address of the author's primary position shall be listed first.
3. An employment relationship or a supervisory responsibility may be considered grounds for crediting an institution, provided that the requirement in point 1 is met.
If you are no longer employed at INN when you publish, but the requirement in point 1 is fulfilled, you shall list INN as your author address. For example, if you completed a doctoral dissertation at INN and subsequently use material from that dissertation to publish research results.
Students who publish scholarly publications based on master's theses or similar work completed at INN may use INN as their author address.
Affiliation for INN employees
As a general rule, you must at minimum list Universitetet i Innlandet or University of Inland Norway as the address in the publication, if it is the result of work carried out in a position at the university. In addition, you may include the name of the faculty, department, or centre to make these more visible.
Examples of how authors with primary employment at INN may write their affiliation:
Author name, department/division/faculty/centre, Universitetet i Innlandet/University of Inland Norway
Author name, Department of Public Health and Sport Science, Faculty of Health and Social Sciences, University of Inland Norway
Author name, Faculty of Education, University of Inland Norway, Hamar, Norway
Author name, Centre for Research on Digitalization and Sustainability, University of Inland Norway, Norway
Registration in NVA
For an institution to be able to count a publication in the NVI-reporting, the institution's name must appear as an author affiliation in the publication itself. By the institution's name is meant "Universitetet i Innlandet/University of Inland Norway/INN." Faculty/department/centre alone is not sufficient.
When registering the publication in the The Norwegian Research Information Repository (NVA), all author addresses listed in the publication must be registered. The author addresses and crediting in the publication determines which institutions receive publication points.
Project registration
Employees at INN must register research projects that are funded by the Research Council of Norway, EU or others.
Publications and other results that are registered in NVA are linked to the project. The Research Council of Norway and other research funders will retrieve all information and updates about projects from NVA.
My page (your researcher profile)
This page displays what has been published on your public profile in NVA. You can edit or add information.
Connect ORCID to your researcher profile
Connecting your NVA user profile to your ORCID ID helps NVA to import your articles faster and with better data quality
What is ORCID?
On the wepage “Increase your visibility as a researcher”, you can read more about what ORCID is and how to create one.

As a general rule, researchers themselves must register all their scholarly publications in NVA and upload the correct full-text version of their scholarly journal articles.
The library’s NVA curators (formerly super users) assist researchers with registrations and carry out NVI reporting on behalf of the faculty.
If you need help with the registration or with NVI reporting, contact your NVA curator.
