New international students have arrived at campus Lillehammer at the University of Inland Norway (INN) for the autumn semester, and only one thing remains to properly kick off the new academic year:
The annual trip to Bessegen!
The students could choose between two different routes: hiking the ridge of Bessegen or along the Gjende lake next to the mountain.
Besseggen is not a hike for beginners as it takes about eight hours in total and has an elevation of 1,634 metres. Walking alongside Gjende, however, is less steep and a hike that is comfortable for most people.
The hike starts in the early morning, and there is a bus taking the students from Lillehammer to Gjendesheim. This drive is only about a couple of hours as Jotunheimen National Park is located in the same county as INN: Innlandet.
The trip is organised by the International Office, and international coordinators join the trip as well. This is a social event where the student group really get to know each other and experience the Norwegian outdoors.
Besseggen in Vågå Municipality is one of the most characteristic mountains in Jotunheimen National Park, and this national park is home to the tallest mountains in Norway. Jotunheimen means 'The home of the giants'.
The trip to Besseggen is an annual event at INN, and it usually ends up being a core memory for the international students visiting us. After all, Norway is all about being outside in nature!
We hope that all of our students enjoyed Besseggen, and we're already excited for next year's trip! Will you be joining us?
