About the guideline
The aim of the guideline is to describe supplementary provisions about exams.
1. About the fourth exam attempt
When an exam has not been passed after three attempts, according to the regulations on studies, admission and exams at University of Inland Norway § 6-5 first paragraph, the faculty may, in special cases, grant dispensation for a fourth attempt upon application from the student, cf. regulations on studies, admission and exams at University of Inland Norway § 6-5 fourth paragraph. In such cases, specific requirements and times for when a fourth and final exam attempt must be carried out can be set.
Special cases can be illness, accidents or other events that have affected the student's ability to take the exam.
2. Application
A justified application for a fourth exam attempt is submitted on a separate application form.
Special circumstances must be documented by a doctor or expert unless the conditions have been previously documented.
3. Requirements for completion of the fourth attempt
Special requirements and timing for the completion of a fourth exam attempt may be established according to the regulation for admission, studies, and exams at University of Inland Norway § 6-5 fourth paragraph. Special requirements may include re-completing compulsory activities, or other appropriate measures such as guidance or teaching.
4. Rejection of application and loss of rights to study
Upon rejection of an application for a fourth exam attempt, a decision can be made on loss of study rights in accordance with the regulations on admission, studies and examinations at University of Inland Norway § 5-4 second paragraph, unless the student can complete the study program in another way.
5. Appeal
There is a right to appeal individual decisions about a fourth examination attempt according to the Public Administration Act section 28. The deadline for appeal is three weeks from the point of time the decision has been communicated to the party, cf. Public Administration Act section 29.
