Compulsory coursework

A number of courses involve compulsory coursework that helps students achieve the learning outcomes. The coursework also helps to promote progression and ensure participation where necessary.  Approved compulsory coursework is a prerequisite for taking the examination of the course in question.

Compulsory coursework can be found in different forms depending on the content of the course and the learning outcomes to be achieved. The coursework is stated in the course programme description.

Deadlines

Deadlines and information about compulsory attendance are given in Canvas. The course coordinator may, upon application, grant an extended submission deadline due to illness or other welfare reasons when the coursework is of such a nature that this is feasible. If you have received a grade of not approved on a piece of compulsory coursework, you will be given one new attempt in cases where this is practically possible to implement. In cases where the compulsory coursework is of such a nature that it cannot be carried out again before the examination (e.g. a field trip), you must wait until the next ordinary implementation of the course to carry out a second attempt. If you have not met the original deadline, and have not been given an extension due to illness or other welfare reasons, you will not be given the opportunity to make another attempt until the next time the course is implemented.

How long is a piece of compulsory coursework valid?

If you postpone a course examination or retake the examination at a later date, previously approved compulsory coursework may still apply: You have the right to complete a course according to the original programme description for one year after changes have been made to the programme description, provided that you are still admitted to a programme of study. You are responsible for checking that previously approved coursework is registered in StudentWeb.

Cheating and plagiarism

Rules concerning cheating in Sections 4-7 and 4-8 of the Act relating to Universities and University Colleges, as well as Chapter 8 of the University’s Study Regulations, also apply to compulsory coursework.

Group work

When coursework is to be carried out in groups, the group participants are jointly responsible for the answer and all group members are obligated to participate actively in the group work. Students who do not see themselves as being able to fulfil their obligations to the group, or find that collaboration in the group does not work, must inform the other group members and the course coordinator about this.

Appeals

You have the right to appeal against formal errors. If the compulsory coursework has not been approved based on assessment of academic content, this can only be appealed after the second submission/implementation – in cases where the content can be verified. The appeal must be submitted as soon as possible and no later than 3 weeks after feedback has been given. If the appeal has not been processed before the examination is to be held, you will be allowed to take the examination. In these cases, the examination result is withheld and not released until the appeal has been processed, provided that your appeal is upheld.
