International Collaborating Partners

CCL has various international partnerships and responsibilities. Below follows an overview of some of these partnerships and the role of CCL. 

International Partner Network of the UNESCO Chair on Education for Sustainable Lifestyles:

Launched in 1992, the UNITWIN/UNESCO Chairs Programme, which involves over 850 institutions in 117 countries, promotes international inter-university cooperation and networking to enhance institutional capacities through knowledge sharing and collaborative work. The programme supports the establishment of UNESCO Chairs and UNITWIN Networks in key priority areas related to UNESCO’s fields of competence – i.e. in education, the natural and social sciences, culture and communication.

How is the Centre involved?

CCL holds the UNESCO Chair on Education for Sustainable Lifestyles and coordinates its International Partner Network. 

UNESCO - Global Action Programme (GAP) on Education for Sustainable Development:

GAP is the follow-up programme to the Decade of ESD (2005-2014), seeks to generate and scale-up ESD and to accelerate progress towards sustainable development. 

How is the Centre involved?

CCL was appointed Key Partner and Co-chair of the Partner Network 3: Building Capacities of Educators and Trainers and collaborating partner of the Partner Network 1: Advancing Policy.

UN ENVIRONMENT - 10-Year Framework of Programmes on Sustainable Consumption and Production Patterns:

At the Rio+20 UN Conference on Sustainable Development in 2012, Heads of State converged around the idea that fundamental changes in our production and consumption patterns are indispensable to achieving long-term sustainable development. The 10YFP generates collective impact through multi-stakeholder programmes and partnerships, which develop, replicate and scale up SCP policies and initiatives at all levels.

How is the Centre involved?

CCL is a member of the Multi Stakeholder Advisory Committee (MAC) for the 10YFP Sustainable Lifestyles and Education Programme (SLE) as part of the One Planet Network.

CCL coordinates the ESL action plan.

Future Earth Knowledge-Action Network (KAN) on Systems of Sustainable Consumption and Production:

The KAN presently supports six Working Groups focused on political economy, sustainable consumption and production in cities, social change, communicating sustainable consumption and production, global value chains, and circular economy. Current Task Force activities are devoted to governance, finance, recruitment of new affiliates, Working Group coordination, communications, and international affairs.

How is the Centre involved?

CCL is a steering committee (SC) member and will guide development of the KAN in collaboration with a six-person Management Team and a soon-to-be appointed Advisory Committee. SC members have discussed their roles and responsibilities that include contributing to the KAN’s ongoing Working Groups and its ad hoc Task Forces, helping to facilitate the flow of information among the constituent parts of the KAN, and contributing to shaping research and policy through organizing workshops, colloquia, and other KAN-sponsored events
