Internationally, our university status is especially relevant. As a university, we strengthen our ability to participate in the international research frontier and are better positioned for success in research grant applications and international accreditation.
We believe that university status will further develop our reseach environments and foster ambitious and solid collaborations in education and research with a wider range of institutions. Simultaneously, we aim to strenghten our collaborative initiatives with current partners.
In many countries and academic environments, being a 'university of applied sciences' is not synonymous with having doctoral programmes and conducting own research.
Although we take great pride in having a practical approach in our education and practicing hands-on science, it is still important to us to demonstrate the high quality of our research. The research environments at INN aim to shape their academic fields, and the education our students receive is research-based.
Moreover, experience from other university establishments shows that a university has a significant impact on its surroundings. A strong educational and research institution, such as a university, attracts other knowledge environments and can contribute to innovation and development.
As a university, we have more control over the development of our educational offerings, allowing us to adapt more quickly and respond when the needs of our external environment change.
However, our newly awarded university status sets standards that INN must continue to meet.
We have stated that the University of Inland Norway will develop expertise that contributes to shaping tomorrow's society. We will be characterised by high quality in education, research, and artistic development work, with continuous academic advancement.
Our educational programmes will be flexible and developed in collaboration with the labour market. We will foster an open, responsible, and transparent research culture, conducting research that is relevant to society.
Overall, we are ready to continue with our hard work and dedication. We are glad to be recognised as a high-quality institution for education and research, and we will strive to live up to our new name and status.
