Our goals
EMERGE has four strategic objectives that define our main goals. These must be understood in connection with the margins' ability to represent the values and identity of Europe as well as the values and principles of our alliance.
Strategic objectives
1. Engaging the margins
We aim to consolidate contacts, links and trust with relevant communities – academic, political, economic and civic.
The goal is to integrate different perspectives and foster collaborative efforts across traditional boundaries with places and communities that are traditionally overlooked.
Our approach is based on creating a responsive and open alliance that enriches decision-making processes, promotes co-design activities and builds sustainable knowledge-creating teams.
2. Educating the margins
In line with our commitment to empowerment, the second strategic objective is directly linked to our education mission: empowering the marginalised with relevant skills for the future.
This goal focuses on education as a transformative tool to equip individuals, groups and whole communities with the skills they need to thrive in a rapidly changing world, even from a position of marginalisation.
We envision an approach to education that is not only inclusive, but also tailored to the diverse needs of our communities, ensuring accessibility and lifelong learning opportunities.
3. Connecting the margins
As part of its mission to counteract the forces of agglomeration, the EMERGE alliance is committed to connecting its members and partners, particularly with each other, but also with neighbouring alliances and networks.
It aims to break down barriers and foster collaboration by promoting mobility experiences, intercultural working environments and language skills.
Through these initiatives, the alliance aims to create a network that transcends geographical and cultural boundaries, ensuring that all members, regardless of their location, can actively contribute to and benefit from the alliance's activities.
4. Reimagining our institutions
This goal focuses on building organisational assets, fostering a culture of continuous learning, and enhancing the resilience and sustainability of the EMERGE campuses.
Our agenda requires us not only to consider how we can contribute to improving the situation of marginalised communities, but also to address the structural barriers and institutional issues that this raises, for instance in terms of career incentives.
Strategic integration at an institutional level ensures that all member institutions within the alliance are aligned in their efforts and allows for a coordinated and synergistic approach, preventing fragmentation and ensuring that the collective impact is greater than the sum of the individual efforts. It is also essential for building trust and credibility with stakeholders and ensuring that alliance initiatives effectively reach and benefit marginalised groups and areas.
Finally, an institutional approach allows the alliance to scale up its initiatives and reach a wider audience of marginalised communities. It enables the alliance to extend its influence and impact beyond individual campuses, fostering a collective commitment to addressing the challenges faced by marginalised groups on a regional, national or even international scale.
