European University
EMERGE was granted the status of 'European University' in 2024, after working towards it since 2019. This initiative stems from what the EU calls a reform of the education sector in Europe. It aims to bring institutions of higher education together to collaborate and promote increased mobility, academic development and research.

The status is granted by the European Commission through the European Universities initiative (EUI), funded by Erasmus +.
EUI status entails, among other things, that the participants in the alliance must have a joint long-term strategy for education, strengthening the link between education, research, and innovation. The strategy is designed to facilitate the free movement of students and staff between institutions.
Students should be able to combine courses from the various institutions as part of their education. Researchers should find it easy to collaborate across institutions and contribute to joint projects. Similarly, staff should have the opportunity to move between institutions, for instance, to participate in exchange programmes for certain periods.
