Since 2019, the University of Inland Norway (INN), through the Centre for Lifelong Learning (SELL) in collaboration with International Council for Open and Distance Education ICDE, has organised the international Lillehammer Lifelong Learning ICDE Conference.

The conference has been held biennially, both in person and online. In 2027 it will again be held in person, taking place in Lillehammer from 15 to 17 February.

Lifelong learning and work life

The theme of this year’s conference is “Lifelong learning for employability and a sustainable future”. The conference’s second day has a particular focus on lifelong learning and the world of work.

The conference combines invited plenary speakers with submitted contributions in various formats.

The 2027 conference will explore how lifelong learning is designed and used in practice to help individuals, workplaces and communities respond to major societal changes.

The conference focuses on how learning can support employability, participation and inclusion across the life course.

“We warmly invite an international community of practitioners, policymakers, researchers and students to come together to explore the latest trends, challenges and innovations in lifelong learning in Lillehammer in February 2027,” says SELL director Mette Villand.

Call for contributions opened

Submissions are now invited for both academic papers and examples of best practice – the call for contributions.

“We particularly encourage submissions that focus on implementation, collaboration, practical experiences and lessons learned from lifelong learning in education, the workplace and communities,” says Villand.

The conference builds on the Lillehammer Lifelong Learning Road Map 2023 (Strategic Roadmap for Lifelong Learning).

This means there will be a focus on how lifelong learning systems can adapt to a rapidly changing world – from digital transformation and demographic shifts to evolving labour market needs and climate action.
